The Redevelopment Agency was created in 1962 as a tool to eliminate blighting conditions and stimulate the economic development in the community. The Agency is Colton's primary vehicle for ensuring the long-term vitality of the community. The Agency may undertake a variety of activities, programs and projects to improve the community, such as assembling property for resale to developers, constructing necessary public facilities to support development, and financing private rehabilitation
The Agency is also responsible for preserving, increasing and improving the supply of affordable housing in the community. Today, Colton has seven (7) redevelopment project areas totaling some 2,000 acres, which contain a variety of commercial, industrial and residentially zoned properties.
